Hello everyone and welcome back to the rip roaring good time known as Beyond The Battlebox! It's been a long, boring week, but we are finally back. We rejoin our show here on October 11th, 2000 with more Quarter-Final action as Grant Imahara's Deadblow takes on Team Malicious' Alien Gladiator in the Middleweight division. Also in the Middleweight division, Derek Young's Pressure Drop faces off with John McKenzie's Ankle Biter. And in the main event it's Super Heavyweight warfare as Team Cool Robots' now-weaponless Minion fights Team Malicious' other entrant, Grendel.  Let's do it, to it! A HEAVY METAL PARTY Check out the fancy new logo! I'll be using it in all future posts!  "There's a heavy metal party going on in Fort Mason, and an appetite for destruction is your invitation." Sean Salisbury wasting no time with dropping liquid hot bars before throwing to Bil Dwyer. Bil starts talking but who cares what he says, there's a lo...

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand spanking new edition of Beyond The Battlebox! Per usual, we are taking a deep dive into the world of 2000, a fruitful world full of...2000. On today's episode we travel to October 4th for some quarter-final action in the Heavyweight, Super Heavyweight and Lightweight brackets.  Oh, and by the way, Battlebots returned just last night so be sure to catch it however you can. Beyond The Battlebox plans to review these episodes as soon as I can find rips of the episodes or another way to take screen grabs. Until then, let's stay in the land of Stacker2 Fat Burners and LUGZ and let's get into an episode where I'm SURE CONTROVERSIAL WILL HAPPEN. Let's do it, to it. QUARTER-FINAL ACTION A new photo because I got sick of digging through my files for the old one. rest in rip og photo  We start with the usual intro as Salisbury Steak delivers many adjectives. Sean calls Bil an "encyclopedia of robot combat", but Bil also didn...

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Beyond The Battlebox, the blog where you ask "why?" and I respond with "yes." A happy belated Thanksgiving to the Americans reading the blog, hopefully you enjoyed the day eating too much and falling asleep. Festivities aside, it's time to go back in time with another episode Battlebots 1.0!   Today's episode aired on September 27th, 2000 and features two fights, one in the Heavyweight and Super Heavyweight divisions and our first Rumble in the Lightweight division, a ten-machine clusterfuck that will be impossible to commentate. I suppose we'll figure it out when we get there so let's do it to it! AN ALL OUT ALUMINUM ORGY Is it the same photo? Or am I just screenshotting the exact same thing every time? The answer is yes.  Five seconds into the episode and Salisbury Steak refers to DoAll vs SLAM as a "Heavyweight Throwdown." DoAll vs SLAM is a Super Heavyweight fight. Sean continues his mom...

Hello everyone and welcome to an early morning edition of Beyond The Battlebox, a snarky review of a sport most have never heard of, but also 20 years ago. We're starting to settle into the first season of Battlebots on Comedy Central, but I'm also starting to settle into this blog. Last week's post got a wonderful amount of love, and seeing how well it's doing is a gift. So thank you all for your support.  This week's Beyond The Battlebox takes a look at Episode 4 (technically 5 but I didn't do the pilot episode because I'm an idiot) which originally aired on September 20th, 2000. Three fights are in store as usual, this time in the Lightweight, Middleweight and Super Heavyweight division. Let's do it to it. AN APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION I bet you didn't notice that I've used the exact same photo since episode 1  We open with a rundown of the card and into the sweet intro before seeing our favorite misfits in action Bil Dwy The Sexual Innuendo G...
